Research - Connotations fit genre

The image of artists is very important is fitting into the genre of their music. Some artists are often stereotyped by this however it also helps to distinguish between different types of artists and categorise them just by their image.

 Chris Brown - An RnB and rap artist, wearing a pair of fashionable glasses, era cap placed backwards and and chain.




Ed Sheeran - An Indie/rap artist in a casual jumper, messy hair and not looking at camera.

 Eminem - a hip-hop and rap artist, dressed in tracksuit bottoms, a vest, woolly hat and chain. Also has numerous tattoos - quite a common attribute in hip hop and rap artists.









Jonas Brothers - A pop rock boy band, pictured with instruments and dressed in jeans, jackets and suits. Has a pop feel to it as they look clean and tidy suggests the type of music they make and the audience may be younger then themselves.






                                           Eryka Badu - A jazz artist, an image that doesn't                         
           represent her as a sexually attractive woman. Pictures with a hat, her dreadlocks hanging loose, patterned clothing and a tooth pick in her mouth. Conveys she is Jazz as she seems laid back and cool - the feelings associated with jazz music.





Adele - A soul/acoustic/pop artist is also not represented in a sexual way. Her body language conveys she is covering herself ans she is fully clothes in black and looking away from the camera. This image suggests the type of music she performs is soulful and is not very poppy.









Scouting for girls - An indie rock and punk boy band. Their image is casual as they are dressed in t shirts and hats. One of them has typically long hair and they all have messy unclean looks about them, suggesting their audience and genre of music.

Rihanna - An RnB/Pop artists whose picture connotes her sexual appeal. The artist is making a seductive pose and is dressed in fishnet tights and a top which is unclear. However, lots of the artists body is exposed which is a common attribute for female RnB singers.






These examples will help me think carefully about the type of music I will be choosing and how I want to represent my artist accordingly.
