RESEARCH: Function of a music video

Youtube would have contributed to the success of LMFAO with their unique music video promoting themselves and their music. This video alone (Party Rock Anthem) has had over 221 million views on Youtube.
The main purpose and function of a music video is to promote and sell the image of the artist/musician to the audience. The music video shows to the audience the artist's style and public image in which he/she wants to portray. Currently, we are heavily exposed to music videos thanks wide media publicity and the simplicity of the internet. TV Channels such as MTV, (whose main purpose was to broadcast music videos) have seen major success due to the many various music videos they've broadcast over the last 30 years. Their heavy focus on showing only music videos has changed the industry, making it a mere necessity for an artist to produce a music video. Also, the easy use and access of Youtube on the internet has allowed music videos to spread to a much wider audience than before. This is considering that once you missed a music video on TV, you probably wouldn't see it again. Increased popularity and fame can be generated from a music video as the audience would be able to link the lyrics of the music to artist, and what they are trying to show in the video. In context, without a music video, the artist would not be promoted enough to gain recognition in the public as people wouldn't know what they look like. Music can bring success; a music video can bring fame.
