In our first lesson of doing the lip sync tutorial we were stold to use final cut pro to edit a piece of live music footage. WE were shown by Micky how to import footage onto final cut pro and then to place a marker on certain parts of the footage. Unaware of the editing techniques of a music video we chose to place the markers anywhere on the clip, and used several of them. We then later checked and erased this error as the video was cutting scenes randomly and not on the beat which is conventional for music videos. Next we were shown how to drag other sections of the live music footage filmed from different angles and place them on top of another thus inserting more markers onto the footage (placed on the beat this time!) In laying down several pieces of footage all with markers we were shown how to use the Razor Blade tool to split the tracks where we had marked them. Next, i chose certain parts of footage to delete thus creating a piece of editing that shows the video from many different angles throughout. Once clear about the conventions of a music video, and after fixing our error i found it enjoyable and quite a easy skill to develop and it worked to delete clips at appropriate time and I was pleased with my footage at the end.
The next thing we did was put these skills into use when given the opportunity to go out, film a music video through lip singing and then edit it accordingly. In filming the video we shot the same scenes repeatedly from different angles to follow the conventions of the video we had previously edited. After doing so, we used Final Cut pro and the markers to lay down several pieces of footage and use the Razor Blade tool to cut up the footage. We then deleted some footage and were left with the video footage which looked similar to the music video we edited earlier in the week. The camera angles change and we tried to position these changes on the beat of the song. Here is our completed preliminary music video below:
