Andrew Goodwin's theory includes that he feels that traditional narrative analysis don't apply to pop videos. As he feels as though pop music videos approach narrative from a different angle to novels and films. The reason for this are as follows:
1- Pop videos are built around songs- often songs do not pose traditional narrative structures.
2- The Pop video uses the singer both as a narrator and as a character.
3- The singer often looks directly at the camera, this is an extension of performance to attempt to draw the viewers at home in.
Pop videos rely on repition, using the same shots in synchronization to the verses and choruses. The video would be played on T.V repeatedly, making the viewers memorize the artists faces and become familiar with the genre and song.
"Visualization of a song may go beyond original meaning in the music video. Sometimes the video provides a visual pleasure that encourages repeated viewing which therefore promotes the music." Therefore, Andrew Goodwin belives that there are three different types of relation between music videos and songs.

Where the video tell the story of the Lyrics from the song.
Amplification
When videos introduce new meanings to the song that don't contradict with the lyrics of the song, better yet add more meaning and layers using the music video to portray this.
Disjuncture.
This is where there is little connection between the song and the music video.
Here are three of my personal choices of the music video differences.
Illustration:
Taylor Swift- You belong with me.
I chose this song due to its straight out story telling Lyrics which then are portrayed in the music video. Practically every clip that is in the shots are said in the lyrics.
Disjuncture:
Adele Rolling in the deep
Rolling in the deep music video has no connection to the song. The mise en scene is very opposite to what I would have thought it could have been to suggest the story of the song. But "it was out of the blue." Footage. The music video has no connection to the actual lyrics of the song. Which is the reason why I thought this would be a good choice to present what Disjuncture is.
Amplification:
Devlin- Runaway.
I like the fact that in the music video it shows a whole load of common situations that can be seen as issues that audiences can relate to, the song is about running away from the problems that you have in life but the video really portrays that in a much deeper level. Its a beautiful video.
