Research - Student Video Lily Allen

Lily Allen - Mr Blue Sky

I think this video really good in terms of representation.  The female is the lead singer and therefore the star of the video; she is represented in a positive way. She is dressed sophisticatedly in high waisted trousers, heels, a patterned top and a flower in her hair. Her outfit connotes innocence and simplicity, whereby she is not represented in a sexual way but as a sophisticated happy woman. The video explores the Andrew Goodwin’s ideas of amplification whereby it strengthens and layers the meaning of the song.  The lyrics suggest the song is literally about the weather but the video creates the effect that it about discovering love, happiness and loving life. The video doesn’t follow the usual narrative conventions of something going wrong in the middle to disturb the equilibrium, the whole mood of the video seems light and joyful, whereby there is a repetition of shots, a base track is used and the concept it very simple, the artist goes out of her house to meet a friend.
